Kids Getting Out of School_CroppedThe end of another school year. Exciting for kids, challenging for parents.

Yes, it’s great to get a break from the hectic pace of the school year, but for many of us, it creates an entirely different problem…what to do to keep our kids entertained, active, and safe over the next few months. And at the same time, finding a solution that doesn’t break the family bank.

To get you started or provide some additional suggestions you might not have considered, here are some free and frugal resources worth looking into.

  • American Camp Association (ACA) – This non-profit organization provides parents with a nationwide resource for finding qualified, accredited camps across the United States. With plenty of advice, guidance, and insight to help you find the perfect camp for your child.
  • Girl and Boy Scout Camps – Both Girl Scouts of the USA and Boy Scouts of America run a variety of affordable camps for kids. There are day camp and sleep-away options, and your child doesn’t have to be involved with scouts before signing up for the camps.
  • The YMCA – The YMCA has over 10,000 camp programs nationwide, including both day and overnight options. Find your local YMCA to see programs offered in your area.
  • Local Religious Organizations - Many churches, synagogues and other places of worship offer affordable summer camps for kids. Additionally, you might find local camp options being held at places of worship that aren’t necessarily religion based.
  • At-Home Camp – If you’re lucky enough to have a family member or sitter staying with your children, you can help keep them busy and entertained with a variety of online options. Sites, such as takelessons.com, provide free and reasonably priced learning activities throughout the summer.
  • Google – In case you haven’t done this yet, you might be surprised to find many local options for day care and camps near you. There’s no better way to get started than with Google. Search “Free 2022 Summer Camps Near Me” to get started.

Summer can be a complicated time for parents. We hope the above information helps you take a little of the stress out of the months ahead.

Stay well.
